Magic Square
This four-by-four magic square is inspired by the one found on the Passion façade of the Sagrada Família church in Barcelona, Spain. Originally created by Spanish sculptor and painter Josep Maria Subirachs, the magic square has more than 300 possible combinations that add up to 33.
Why 33? Some believe that Subirachs chose this number because it was the age of Jesus Christ at the time of his death, while others speculate that he was referencing the 33 levels of freemasonry.
Regardless of the true inspiration behind his artwork, Subirachs' magic square is a piece of sheer mathematical genius and artistic bravado.
